Palensky's tenth inning single leads Royals past Front Royal, 5-4

FRONT ROYAL – Aaron Palensky’s RBI single in the tenth inning pushed the Winchester Royals past the Front Royal Cardinals at Bing Crosby Stadium on Wednesday night, 5-4.

After surrendering a 4-2 lead in the seventh, it took one run in the tenth to secure Winchester’s seventh win of the season. All with two outs, Jordan Huntley (1-for-5, RBI, 2 R) laced a double followed by a single from Masen Prososky (3-for-5) to set the stage for Palensky.

Jake Posey earned the win, as he pitched a pivotal 2.2 scoreless innings, where he allowed just three hits while striking out two. After retaining a tie game in the eighth and ninth innings, Posey ran into some trouble in the tenth. Front Royal had the tying run on second and the winning run on first with two outs. However, Trent Sidwell came in to record the final out and earn the save.

Ruben Ramirez toed the rubber in his first start of the season. He went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while issuing four walks and striking out two. Although exiting with two outs in the fifth with a 2-1 deficit, the offense picked him up with three runs in the fifth.

Huntley reached on an error to lead off and Palensky got plunked to give Winchester a runner in scoring position with one out. After Huntley and Palensky each stole a base, Samyr Santos ripped a single to score both of his teammates and give Winchester a 3-2 lead. Kaylib Hanson doubled that lead later in the inning with an RBI single.

Bryan Whitacre entered after Ruben Ramirez and retired his first four batters. However, he issued a leadoff walk to start the seventh, then Andrew Burden squared up a two-run home run to tie the ballgame. After finishing the seventh, Posey came on and sent the game to extras, where Palensky drove in the go-ahead run.
