Winchester defeats Purcellville on the road, 3-1
PURCELLVILLE – The Royals made it four straight and nine of their last 11 as they beat the Purcellville Cannons, 3-1, at Fireman’s Field on Monday night.
Ryan Kennedy was dominant in six innings of work. The southpaw allowed just two hits and one unearned run, which scored in the third inning. Kennedy struck out four and walked one, lowering his ERA to 4.50 and earned his second win of the summer.
Former Royal Will Guay got the start for Purcellville, and the offense pounced on him for two runs in six innings. In the first, after Jonny Butler started the game with a single, Jordan Huntley drove him in with a double. In the fifth, Aaron Palensky started the frame with a double, while Butler drove him in with a single to give the Royals a 2-1 lead after five innings.
The Royals added an insurance run in the eighth thanks to an RBI single from Samyr Santos. The bullpen saw scoreless innings from Emilio Valdes and James Grant, while Jake Posey pitched a perfect ninth to seal the Royals’ 14th win of the season
Winchester (14-12) travels to Front Royal to take on the Cardinals (17-8). First pitch in scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bing Crosby Stadium.
