Ramirez's dominant start pushes Royals past Strasburg
STRASBURG – Powered by a pair of home runs and a strong start from Ruben Ramirez, the Royals defeated the Strasburg Express at First Bank Stadium on Friday night, 7-2.
Ramirez was in control from the outset, as he allowed just three hits and issued one walk over seven scoreless innings. He pitched to the minimum in the third and fourth inning, while allowing just two baserunners to advance to second base in addition to five strikeouts.
Ramirez left the game with a 7-0 cushion, put together by an explosion of runs in the middle innings. In the second, Samyr Santos cranked his fifth home run of the season to get the offense going. Two innings later, Ray Gil doubled the lead with a home run of his own.
In the fifth, Zion Pettigrew led off with a walk before consecutive doubles from Lucas Oxendine and Joe Sadallah extended the lead to four runs. A couple batters later, Jordan Huntley brought in Sadallah with a single.
In the sixth, Sadallah drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to open up a 6-0 lead. Gil capped the scoring with a RBI groundout an inning later.
Trey Pusser pitched a clean eighth inning of relief. Desmond Grimes came on in the ninth and allowed two unearned runs on four hits.
